Eld. J. Berry Adkins had some very innovative ideas about how the church should minister to the body of Christ.  He believed that the church should minister to every aspect of the body of Christ whether the person be man, woman, boy, or girl.

When he approached his pastor with his ideas, Eld. Adkins was met with opposition.  Eld. Adkins felt the leading of the Lord to start his own church. Eld. Adkins prayed and fasted about it for 6 months.

In 1977, Eld. Adkins began the Greater Buelahland Interdenominational House of Rest.  He named he church Greater Buelahland Interdenominational House of Rest (GBIDHOR) because he wanted the church first to be a place of peace and rest.  Secondly, he wanted the church to be a place where people of all denominations and races could feel welcomed to serve the Lord.

Eld. Adkins began building the church. He worked hard at building his church membership.  GBIDHOR grew steadily.  Eld. Adkins had one thing that he told his members. "If you have an idea about a ministry or something you think should be addressed, come and talk to me or one of my staff members, we will see what we can do." As a result of this statement, a number of ministries were started.

In 1988, Eld. Adkins began a Fellowship Of Churches And Ministries.  The churches and ministries that joined were churches who were progressive in their vision of ministry.  By the end of 1988, five churches and ministries had joined the fellowship.

A new GBIDHOR was built at its current location in 1990. The building held over 1,500 people with a choir stand that would seat 250 people.

Eld. Adkins was consecrated as a bishop in 1990. It was in this same year that the Greater Buelahland Fellowship held its first convocation.  The convocation was held at the church for the first two years.  The convocation was moved to the Dorinda Convention Center in 1993.

GBIDHOR is a church that believes in taking authority in everything that we do.  If we are to truly be the ROYAL PRIESTHOOD, a CHOSEN GENERATION, we must realize who we are in Christ.

GBIDHOR has ministries that are essential to every member of the body of Christ, whether they be man, woman, boy, or girl.
