Pentecost House of Refuge began in 1983 by Rev. Gabriel Daniels. Eld. Daniels was a pastor at a non-Pentecostal church. After receiving the Holy Spirit, he began preaching about the Holy Spirit. He was told by the Board of Trustees at the church to stop preaching about the Holy Spirit. He did not stop. He was asked to leave the church. He began attending a Pentecostal church sometime after being removed from his previous church. He still harbored negative feelings that he had not dealt with yet. While attending a revival at the church he was a member of, Eld. Daniels received a word of prophecy… "You have ministry in you. The only reason you cannot go ahead with your ministry is because you have not dealt with past hurts." That night, Eld. Daniels cried before the Lord and released all of the pain that he had stored in him. About a month later, Eld. Daniels started his own ministry, Pentecost House of Refuge. Word had gotten out to some of the members of the church that Eld. Daniels had previously pastored and many of the members attended the first service of the new church. At the end of the service, half of Eld. Daniels former members joined Pentecost House of Refuge. The church grew. Many people joined the church during its first two years. Everything was going wonderful until 1987, when scandal hit the church. During testimony service, a woman got up and proclaimed that a married male member of the church had fathered her child and did not want to take care of the child. By the end of the week, six more women came forth and made the same claim; two other women claimed that they had affairs with the same man. This was a shock to the pastor because he had not known about all of the women. He only knew about one of the women and he had reprimanded the male member and the female member. Both members were in counseling sessions as well. The scandal rocked the church hard. Some members left the church; some of those who stayed murmured and complained. Sis. Claudia Daniels was friends with Evg. Bridgette Handon, first lady of Allen Temple. Sis. Daniels talked to Evg. Handon. Evg. Handon advices Sis. Daniels to fast and pray about the situation. Sis. Daniels did just that. Sis. Daniels told her husband what the Lord had told her. Eld. Daniels did as his wife told him. After a year, the scandal was forgotten, but Pentecost House of Refuge has lost over ¾ of its members. Pentecost House of Refuge journeyed on over the next few years. In 1990, Pentecost House of Refuge joined the Greater Buelahland Fellowship. Joining the Greater Buelahland Fellowship was wonderful for the Pentecost House of Refuge. It had become a member of a network of churches. Eld. and Sis. Daniels were able to learn from other pastors and first ladies of the fellowship. As a result, Pentecost House of Refuge began to grow again. Pentecost House of Refuge has grown steadily since then. |
