Covenant Ministries was founded in 1990 by Rev. Dan Bardin.  It was founded two years after Revs. Bardin and his wife were divorced. After having a tumultuous divorce, he was having a hard time coping with his divorce. At his church, Greater St. Edwards Church, there was not a ministry specifically geared towards helping divorced people.  There were ministries that were helpful, but not specifically for divorced people.

Rev. Bardin went to the pastor and asked could he begin a ministry that would help divorced people at the church.  The pastor gave Rev. Bardin permission. The ministry was not successful at first. No one came to the classes that Revs. Bardin established.  It was Rev. Bardin in the room by himself for the first 3 classes. Before Rev. Bardin scheduled another class at his church, he began talking to people. He began inviting people to the classes. He passed out flyers. He even got announcements placed in church bulletins in the area.  When the next class was scheduled, the classroom was not big enough.  The class had to be moved to a bigger classroom, which was still not big enough.  The classes were successful from then on.

There were several people who wanted to work in the ministry, but they were not members of Greater St. Edwards. Every now and then, Rev. Bardin would feel inspired to start his own ministry, but he would often shrug it off. The inspiration was becoming more frequent.  In 1990, Rev. Bardin began his own ministry, Covenant Ministries.

The ministry holds classes and seminars monthly. Several qualified ministry workers travel to churches and help set-up ministries geared toward helping divorced people. They are chapters of Covenant Ministries.

In 1995, Kid's Covenant, a branch of the ministry geared towards helping children of divorced people deal with their issues was established.

Each year in June since 1995, Covenant Ministries holds a symposium that brings together all of the chapters of Covenant Ministries and Kid's Covenant. This symposium is very successful.  The symposium includes classes, workshops, rap sessions, and panel discussions for both adults and children ages 6-20.  Also available at the symposium are psychologists and family counselors.
