The Greater Buelahland Fellowship was founded in 1988 by Eld. J. Berry Adkins. It began as a fellowship of churches and ministries who were progressive in their vision of ministry. The first church to join was Faithway Christian Church. Dr. Alfred Glenn met Eld. Adkins through his wife, Sis. Donnie Glenn. The ladies, Sis. Glenn and Sis. Darlene Adkins, both worked at the Maddocha Higher Education Society. Dr. Glenn was eventually appointed as the Vice-President of the organization. By the end of 1988, three other churches and ministries had joined the fellowship. When the fellowship had its first National Convocation in 1990, there were 13 members in the fellowship. The first convocation was successful. More people attended than were expected. Every convocation since then has been successful. In 1995, the women's ministry director, Min. Billie Casey, asked Bishop Adkins if the women could have a Women's Convocation. It was added. The first one was held at the Dorinda Convention Center. In 1998, the tenth year the fellowship had been in existence, four other convocations and conferences were added. The Leadership Conference was developed by Min. Melinda Bryant and Dr. Alfred Glenn. This conference was established to help the leaders of the fellowship leaders, pastors, and first ladies. The Youth Convocation, was suggested by the youth ministry leader, Min. Charles Handford. It is unique in that it is not the same as other youth convocations. It is designed so that the young people ages 28 and under have their own services with no parents. The parents have separate sessions and services than the young people. It is a very popular convocation. The Music and Arts Seminar was established by Evg. Dee Clark, founder and president of Songbird's Choice. The seminar gives people in the music and arts field a chance to show their talents. There are also classes and seminars as well as nightly services. The Minister's and Worker's Conference was suggested by Evg. Mike Taylor, Coordinator of Member Education and Bro. Chuck Bravard, Vice-President of Education. IT is a conference that helps ministry leaders and workers. It is designed as seminars, classes, and sessions that focus on ministry leadership and working in ministries. In 2000, Bishop J. Berry Adkins saw fit to create headquarters in our three sister states, Booneland, Gilleada, and West Maddocha. These states have their own Vice-Presidents, Boards, and operate as their own entity, holding their own state meetings in accordance with the vision of the Vice-President of the state. God has blessed our state headquarters with exceptional leaders with excellent visions. The fellowship has over 2,000 churches and ministries. Churches and ministries are being added yearly as the Lord see fits. The Greater Buelahland Fellowship is growing. |
